Reading

MPU full-time staff, current students (including students in bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degree programs offered or organized by the University), Seniors Academy students, holders of a valid Macau Academic Libraries Consortium Institutional Card, and holders of a valid Reader’s Card or Borrower’s Card (referred to as “Readers”) may access the library resources under the rules and regulations.

Access

Readers should take care of their own personal belongings or may temporarily store their personal belongings in lockers. The library is not responsible for the custody or loss compensation of personal belongings carried by readers or stored in lockers.

Readers must comply with the following rules in the library. Violators will be advised to leave to protect the rights of other readers:

  • Items that may affect the library environment are prohibited from entering the library (determined by library staff);
  • Remain quiet and refrain from making loud noises, play or sleep;
  • Refrain from any inappropriate conduct that annoys or affects others;
  • Devices must be muted before entering into the library;
  • Photographing, video and audio recording are prohibited unless approved in advance.
  • Smoking, eating and drinking are prohibited.
  • Any damage of library materials (such as by writing on, scratching, folding, tearing pages, and removing library labels or records, etc.) are prohibited.  Violators are subject to pay the service fees stipulated by the University.
  • The use of computers and other electronic equipment in the library is limited to the purposes of learning and searching for information. Playing games or browsing violent, indecent or pornographic websites is prohibited;
  • Pets are prohibited from entering into the library;
  • Readers are required to comply with the regulations on the use of library facilities, equipment and other relevant rules and regulations of the University.

Application Procedure
  • The applicant should fill in a Library Card Application Form with 2 recent photos and a photocopy of credentials.
  • The deposit is payable by cash, BOC Pay, crossed-check, bank draft, or cashier order are accepted. Please make the check payable to " Macao Polytechnic University". Please pay the deposit at the Finance Office or the Library (only accept cash, BOC Pay). The deposit will be returned to the applicants when they cancel the Library Borrower’s Card.
  • Please allow 3 working days for the Library to completely process the application.

Borrowing

When checking in or out a library item, users must present to the Circulation Counter a valid Staff Card, Borrower's Card, or Student ID Card. Users should notice that borrowing for friends are not recommended since the users have the full responsibility for all the loan items. All loans may be recalled from users when special needs arise. All dictionaries, encyclopedia, special reference books, periodicals and special collections are reserved for use inside the Library only. Please refer to the Borrowing Privileges section for more information.

Users may check-out Library material(s) as follows:

  • Come to the Circulation Counter to check-out books with your valid Staff Card, Borrower's Card, or Student ID Card
  • Using Self-service Checkout Station to check-out books by yourself.

Returns

Users must return loan items to the Library on or before the due dates. When returning, users must present to the Circulation Counter a valid Staff Card, Borrower's Card, or Student ID Card for item check-in.

Users may return checked-out item(s) as follows:

  • Using the Smart Locker, a self-service holds pick-up and return system at the entrance of the Library
  • OR come to the Circulation Counter to return your books.

Renewals

Staff members and students may renew borrowed items on or before the due date if the item is not under reservation (Students may renew item once). Items cannot be renewed if users have overdue items or outstanding charges.

Users may renew checked-out item(s) as follows:

  • Online renewal
  • OR come to the Circulation Counter to renew your books.

Reservation

Users may reserve checked-out items or items under cataloguing. The Library will inform the user at once when the reserved items are returned to the Library. Users should notice that the reserved items will only be kept for 7 opening days from the available date, and it will be released to the second user on the waiting list. Items cannot be reserved if users have overdue items or outstanding charges.

Users may reserve the checked-out item(s) as follows:

  • Online Reservation - A patron may reserve the books currently borrowed by or reserved for other users via the Primo Discovery Service. Click the "Request" button of the desired item, and then input your NetID and password to login.
  • Or you may also come to the Circulation Counter to reserve item(s) you want by filling in a "Book Reservation Form".

Overdue

Readers are responsible for returning their borrowed material(s) by the due date. If any borrowed material is overdue, the borrowing privileges of the borrower's account will be suspended.

Those who borrow or renew material(s) before 1st September 2024 are subject to the original regulations. Any material borrowed before 1st September 2024 is still charged MOP3.00 per day (excluding public holidays) under the original regulations if it is overdue. Even when the return date of the overdue material is after 1st September 2014, the charges are still applied under the original regulations.

Those who borrow or renew material(s) after 1st September 2024 are subject to the new guidelines for using the library services. Any overdue material is managed under the new service fees of the new guidelines.

Email Notices

All Library notices will be sent to users via email, including notices about on-hold items that you can pickup and overdue and alert notices. The Library sends these notices as a courtesy only. It is the users' responsibility to check the due dates of all of the loans.

Lost or Damaged

If the borrowed material or item is damaged or lost, the borrower should inform the library immediately and is subject to pay the relevant service fees stipulated by Macao Polytechnic University. The borrower's borrowing privileges will be suspended until the relevant service fees are paid off. Even after the service fees have been paid, the damaged or lost material or item still belongs to Macao Polytechnic University.

Those who borrow or renew material(s) before 1st September 2024 are subject to the original regulations. Any material borrowed before 1st September 2024 is still charged paying the original price of the item plus 20% service charge per item or estimated value stipulated by Macao Polytechnic University under the original regulations if it is reported as lost or damaged. Even when the lost/damaged report date is after 1st September 2014, the charges are still applied under the original regulations.

Those who borrow or renew material(s) after 1st September 2024 are subject to the new guidelines for using the library services. Any material reported as lost or damaged is managed under the new service fees of the new guidelines.

Cancellation / Clearance Procedure

Academic and administrative staff, graduates, departing students or students on the suspension status must go to the Library to complete the clearance procedures.
